PTSD, short for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, is typically thought of in terms of war veterans.  People who work with rescue animals know that animals can suffer PTSD as well. Those of us who work with Cannabis know that it can help both humans and animals with their PTSD symtoms. Why? Because we both have an Endocannabinoid system (ECS) and Cannabis feeds it.  The ECS regulates all of our bodily functions including the stress response.  The goal is to bring the body to homeostasis or perfect balance.

People and animals with PTSD often suffer with anxiety and depression.  Naturally, Cannabis is a perfect fit for those conditions as well. People can use fresh Cannabis leaf in their morning smoothie or boil it and enjoy a cup of tea to garner some relief from symptoms.  Neither getting high nor smoking is required. Your pets can be given a doggie biscuit that is easily made using just a teaspoon of finely ground Cannabis leaf in an easily made recipe found online. Be mindful and use a high CBD strain unless you know your pet enjoys a little trip without leaving the farm.

With the holidays coming, those with PTSD and depression would likely benefit from a Cannabis chemovar high in the terpene limonene to help cheer them up.  Blue Dream, Sour Diesel, and Granddaddy Purple are three of the strains available in the local licensed stores that are good choices for feeling better. Blue Dream can be used at any time without getting too energized, Sour Diesel is a Sativa and would be best used by most in the daytime hours, and Granddaddy Purple is a solid Indica that will often leave you pain-free, without a care, dozing in your chair.
